If you follow me on Facebook you would have noticed me run a competition recently for two women to win a boudoir photo shoot in return for me being able to use the images on my website and in promotional materials. In the past I’ve used models for my boudoir website images, but when it came to the revamp the more I thought about hiring models again, the more I felt bad against it.
After all, its never models who end up booking me for these shoots, its real women. People who have never felt confident in front of a camera, or even considered having boudoir photos taken before. The last thing I wanted to do was then intimidate them further with photographs of models executing perfect poses on the website.
So I ended up picking Alex and Helen. Neither of whom had modelled before and who were both free and available for our photo shoot at the start of February. They were also both gracious enough to allow us to use their images for promotional purposes in order for us to really push the boudoir experience. The team and I started collecting inspiration, sourcing clothes, lingerie, make-up, hair ideas, styling ideas. Stressing about venues that seem to charge ridiculous prices to hire them! Then, like magic, it all just came together…
Alex and Helen, were great to work with. Despite their nerves (which disappeared after the first few shots!) you’d never have guessed that neither of these girls had modelled before. Having their hair and make-up done by professionals helped to boost their confidence in front of the camera, and to have their outfits hand picked from items they already owned and teamed with new pieces by a set stylist made them feel like complete stars for the day.
They soon relaxed into the day, and we ended up shooting far more looks than we even originally planned (In fact, we could have photographed even more if we hadn’t lost the light and track of time!)
