I’ve been so excited to see the developments in Kerry O’Brine Womenswear’s business as we both started out together, trying to get out heads around becoming business people. Albeit in two very different industries, Kerry and I have often got together to pick each others brains for insight in how things should be done and to help encourage and support one another.
So when Kerry mentioned she was ready to do another photo shoot I jumped at the chance to photograph it for her. This time around it was all about her new line of silk jersey dresses which are available in a range of colours (Black, Navy, Ivory, Coral and Sage Green) and three different sleeve lengths. The dresses are made to order and designed to be worn for work but simple changes such as an accessory, piece of jewellery or pair of shoes can take them from day to night.
The photo shoot itself took place at the Salthouse Hotel on Ipswich docks, a place full of eclectic decoration and the exact type of ambiance and feel of luxury we needed for our models location. We had the beautiful Katja modelling for us and Suzie Love took care of hair (in a fantastic 1920’s style!) and equally elegant make-up.
We shot the entire shoot in black and white, to meet Kerry’s 1920’s inspiration and provide the viewer to really ‘see’ the dresses, rather than becoming distracted by colours. This was a great challenge for me, being someone who is instantly drawn to colour, however, visualising the shoot in black and white and processing in a new manner really refreshed my thinking. I have found myself since, becoming more and more attracted to black and white imagery, and working it into my wedding workflow a lot more than I used to do so.
So without further ado, here are a selection of my favourites from the photo shoot.
Kerry is also at work planning a pop up boutique, from Tuesday the 5th to the 10th of March 2013 at Craft Central (33-35 St John’s Square London EC1M 4DS) where she’ll have dresses and accessories on sale, and these photographs on display too. I’ll be going along and I hope to see a few of you there too!
