A Rainy Day Winter Wedding at Houchins
After a week full of winter sun, Lauren and Dave’s wedding day arrived on Saturday and with it came the rain… Lauren and I blamed her Manchester based family bringing the rain down south with them, just to make them feel more at home! Luckily ever the planners, Lauren and Dave had prepared for all eventualities and had lots of pretty white lace umbrellas for their guests to shelter under throughout the day.
Houchins is one of those venues that looks beautiful whatever the weather, there is ample indoor space both in the accommodation house and the barn itself that lends itself perfectly for photographs indoor and out, and so the weather really didn’t matter at all.
When I arrived, Dave met me at the car to show me where he and the boys were getting ready in one wing of the house. The girls were based up in the eaves on the other side of the building, and it was so handy for me being able to go back and forth between both groups throughout the morning for photos. Dave, had been really instrumental in the planning of their wedding, which I loved as it meant attention to detail on the boys side wasn’t skipped over. In fact he had arranged all of the boys suits in the corridor, along with their gift bags and shoes ready for me to photograph. This is the kind of organisation I usually only encounter from the girls, so thats mega bonus points to Dave!
I then went to find the girls, who were so quiet I couldn’t find them at first! All was calm in the bridal suite as they had a leisurely morning getting ready, watching guests arrive and the boys dart back and forth to the barn from the window.
When it came to the ceremony, emotions were high. Dave shed a few tears, as did his dad and his best man (and brother!). In fact I’m not sure there was a dry eye in the house at all, but it made for beautiful images for them to look back on one day.
I whisked them away straight after the ceremony for some photos back in the house and under an umbrella outdoors, to give them a chance to just be together and revel in that just married feeling too. They were both so great, were happy to be guided by my plans and even shelter under that umbrella for some photos which became my favourites right away as soon as I clicked the shutter on my camera.
For my first wedding of 2016 I don’t think I could have been luckier! These two were just the loveliest people to be around all day, and I was made so welcome by their families and friends too, in fact by the time I left, I felt like I’d known this bunch for years and that I was just another guest
