It’s not very often that I get a wedding booking on a Monday, but this week I did! Ian and Yuliya had decided to get married in a low key way with a small selection of their closest family and friends attending.
Their ceremony was really the only traditional part of the day, as it took place at Witham’s registry office, but afterwards guests travelled back to Bradfield in Essex for a reception in Ian’s parents beautiful back garden.
Yuliya also had a few traditions relating back to her Ukrainian heritage which included stepping onto the Rushnyk – an embroidered cloth where the person who steps first will wear the trousers in the relationship! (They stepped at the same time!). They were then presented with a Korovai by Yuliya’s parents which is a large round braided bread usually decorated with swans (they didn’t survive the journey though). It’s also said that whoever takes the larges bite from the bread will be in charge (again – Yuliya and Ian’s bites were pretty even!)
Being at his parents home also meant their dogs got be a big part of their wedding day too, and it all added to the really relaxed feel of this small but wonderful wedding day.
Here’s a few of my favourites…
