In the middle of the Blackwater Estuary in Essex sits Osea Island. An island cut off from the mainland for all but 4 hours each day and accessible by a stony coastal road. This private island has been famous for celebrity parties and the filming of Woman In Black and in 2014 finally became licensed for weddings.
Luca and Ryan at the time were living and working on the Island running the day to day managing of it and so wanted to make a little bit of history by becoming the first couple to legally marry on Osea. I was thrilled at the chance to join them on the day to photograph their wedding as for so long it had been a venue I’d wanted to see for myself. I was definitely not disappointed. Osea is surrounded by amazing views, not just out to sea but across the island itself.
Another favourite thing about this wedding, was that their ring bearer had four paws. Harry their Dalmatian did an excellent job of running down the aisle when his name was called, and after managing to catch him at the top of the aisle the only problem they had was loosening the pouch that contained the rings on his collar!
In total I was on the island for just 4 hours joining them just before the ceremony until after their speeches, but my time there capturing this incredibly laid back wedding was definitely one I’ll never forget!
Take a look at their day below;
