How To Get Organised with your Wedding Planning

At first planning a wedding is really exciting! You start to daydream about all the elements of your day and get carried away on Pinterest (and lose hours of your life!). It’s not long before overwhelm can set in, especially when it dawns on you just how much work it is to plan a wedding.

Keeping track of all the suppliers you are communicating with and still having a normal existence is pretty hard but below I’ve put together some tips to keep you sane through the process, and show you how to get organised with your wedding planning!

Set Up a Wedding Email Address

If you and your partner are both in contact with suppliers it can soon become confusing. Set up a join email address especially for the wedding which you can both access and use it solely for big day related things.

You can even get super organised by creating specific folders for each section of your day so that its easy to keep track of email conversations with all your relevant suppliers

Have a Wedding Spot

Dedicate a space in your home for wedding planning things. If you have a folder full of contracts, flyers you’ve picked up and information you’ve gathered find a drawer to store everything in so its easy to find when you need it.

If you’re DIY’ing a lot of your wedding day you may also want to dedicate a room! I took over our barely used dining room to house my Macrame backdrop, table centrepieces, favours, invitations – pretty much everything we were buying ahead of the day.

Create a Shared Calendar

Use iCal or Google Calendar to set up a shared calendar. This way you can both keep track of any appointments you have booked in with suppliers, or open days you want to check out.

It will also save you lots of back-and-forth when it comes to finding a date for meetings as you can just pull up your calendar and see where you’ll both be.

Use Google Drive or Excel online

If you’re using checklists or worksheets, saving them to Google Drive is a great way to access them from anywhere. This is helpful when you’re out and about and want to add something to a list or check something off.

Likewise, if you’re more of a spreadsheet planner, using Excel online will give you the ability to make changes to your budget on the go.

Divide your Tasks up

Between the two of you you’re bound to have parts of the day you’re more excited about planning than others. I was definitely into the decor side and I left Russell to manage the money! He also took the lead with food and entertainment whilst I could concentrate on styling, design and logistics.

Use your strengths and interests to your advantage and divide up all the wedding tasks so one of you isn’t left doing the majority of the work.

Lastly, you may find a copy of my Perfectly Planned Wedding Guide and Spreadsheets helpful.

These templates have been sitting on my computer for a year now and I figured they’d be better put to use by other bride and grooms to be’s out there.

This printable wedding planner has 136 pages and contains not only templates and worksheets for planning your wedding, keeping track of your suppliers and guests but also a 18 month checklist to guide you through the process, questions to ask your suppliers and handy tips to make your wedding day run smoothly.

For the spreadsheet planners out there, I have also made-over the spreadsheets we used to plan our wedding so that you can track your spending and guestlist easily (and stylish-ly!)

Putting this together for you has been a real passion project and I’m so excited to see you use it to bring your wedding day to life.
